How to set up your binoculars for your eyesight:
1) We all have slightly different eyesight strengths and so you will need to set up your binoculars to suit your eyesight using the dioptre setting. If you do not do this, your binoculars will not focus correctly.
2) Please follow the instructions on this page under the heading “Setting the Dioptre for your Binoculars:” thesafaristore.com/products/binoculars/techTalk.
3) The location of the dioptre may be different depending on your binoculars. Simply check your user manual to find out where the dioptre is on your binoculars. The same steps would still apply.
Mr. Sean Flanagan
We just got back from our first safari, which was to the Tarangire and Serengeti parks in Tanzania. In preparing for the trip, I had read comments on a number of sites advocating bringing the best possible binoculars, with a pair for each person in your group. When I saw the prices for some of the high end binoculars people were recommending (£500 and up), I just couldn't see how I could justify it, particularly after having already bought a high quality telephoto lens for the trip. As an afterthought, I searched for "binocular hire uk" and found the Safari Store. I rented three of their highest quality binoculars for our trip (Vortex Viper HD). Aside from the decision to go on the safari in the first place, it was the best decision I made. They were truly incredible binoculars - it felt like you were right next to the animals, and they brought out incredible detail that could not be seen at all with the naked eye. The guides seemed amazed by the quality of the image, as were the couple we shared our vehicle with in the Serengeti. The process with the Safari Store was very smooth (they mailed a few days before our trip, and we returned them within a few days of returning). The charge for a week of hire actually covered a longer period, with a few days before and after our week-long safari being covered by the charge for one week of rental. There was only a nominal charge for the pair of eye cups we lost. Thanks very much, Safari Store. This will be my big recommendation to everyone I meet who is getting ready to go on Safari!
